Mechanical Layer Pair

Parent page: PCB Dialogs

The Mechanical Layer Pair dialog.

Summary

This dialog allows the designer to configure a mechanical layer pair for the board, in terms of first and second layers. Paired mechanical layers are used when extra detail is needed in the component footprint, and that detail needs to change to another layer when the component is moved from the top side of the board, to the bottom side. An example of this is glue dot information.

Access

The dialog is accessed from the PCB Editor, or PCB Library Editor, through the Mechanical Layer Pairs dialog, in the following ways:

  • Clicking the Add button.
  • Selecting a currently defined mechanical layer pair and clicking the Mechanical Pair Properties button.
The Mechanical Layer Pairs dialog is accessed by right-clicking on a layer tab (at the bottom of the main design window) and choosing the Configure Mechanical Pairs command from the context menu.

Options/Controls

  • Mechanical Layer Pair - the following fields collectively define the mechanical layer pair:
    • Layer 1 - the first layer in the pair. Choose from any of the currently defined and enabled mechanical layers for the board.
    • Layer 2 - the second layer in the pair. Choose from any of the currently defined and enabled mechanical layers for the board.
The chosen layers in the pairing must be different.
